This book would come across as very "wildernessy" to a city or town person who is just beginning to venture into the outdoors of discovery/camping. However, for the experienced outdoors person seeking advanced stimulation, it lacks wilderness "grit". It does offer the inexperienced person inspiration, courage, and the desire to dream and pursue the out of doors in a real tangible way. A way to "get away from it all" to relax and de-stress, and let go of the strangle hold of the city.

a desert island book!
If you could only have three books the rest of your life, which would you choose? Jerry May's "Wisdom of Wilderness" would be on my list for sure. If you feel a longing to respond to nature's invitation to come, if you long for a more immediate experience of life, if you seek to connect with God without some of the trappings of religious ideation and tradition, then this book is for you. Just by reading Jerry's experiences of wilderness and his reflections on these experiences, you might begin to feel some of the same freedom, healing and calm Presence about which the author writes so eloquently. I plan on gifting this book to many people this holiday season.
